ἅτερος [ᾰ], Dor. etc. for ἕτερος, IG 9(1).694.17 (Corc.); Aeol. ἄτερος Alc. 41, al., etc.; τὸ ἅτερον, Megarian in Ar. Ach. 813. 2. ἅτερος [ᾱ], Att. contr. for ὁ ἅτερος, Com.Adesp. 14.23 D., Pl. Lg. 695b, etc.; also neut. θάτερον, gen. θᾱτέρου, dat. θᾱτέρῳ, θᾱτέρᾳ, or with mark of crasis, θἀτέρου, etc.; but contr. forms when the Art. ends with a conson., are incorrect, as θάτερον τὸν τόπον Str. 2.1.20, cf.Luc.
