ἀνάλγητος, ον, A. without pain, and so: I. of persons, insensible to pain or danger, Meliss. ap. Arist. Xen. 974a19, cf. EN 1115b26. 2. unfeeling, hard-hearted, ruthless, S. Aj. 946 (lyr.); -ότερος εἶναι to feel less resentment, Th. 3.40: c. gen., ἀ. γενέσθαι τινός to be insensible to, Plu. Aem. 35. Adv. -τως unfeelingly, S. Aj. 1333; callously, ἀ. ἀκούειν Plu. 2.46c. II. of things, not painful, ἀνάλγητα (sc. πράγματα) a lot free from pain, S. Tr. 126. 2. cruel, πάθος E. Hipp. 1386 (lyr.).
