στενάχω [ᾰ], poet. lengthd. form of στένω, only pres. and impf., Ep. στενάχεσκον Il. 19.132, Q.S. 3.549 (aor. is ἐστονάχησα, v. στοναχέω), and mostly in pres. part.:—A. groan, sigh, wail, freq. in Hom., ἁδινὰ σ. Il. 24.123, al.; βαρέα σ. 8.334, al.; βαρὺ σ. Od. 8.95,534; μεγάλα (as v.l. for βαρέα) 4.516, 23.317; πυκνὰ μάλα σ. Il. 18.318, 21.417; also in Trag. (lyr.), as S.
