σέβας, τό, only nom., acc., and voc. sg.; pl. σέβη A. Supp. 755, as if from σέβος, τό: (σέβομαι):—A. reverential awe, which prevents one from doing something disgraceful (cf. σέβομαι) , σ. δέ σε θυμὸν ἱκέσθω Πάτροκλον Τρῳῇσι κυσὶν μέλπηθρα γενέσθαι Il. 18.178; αἰδώς τε σ. τε h.Cer. 190; also awe with a notion of wonder, σ. μʼ ἔχει εἰσορόωντα Od. 3.123, 4.75, cf. 142, etc.: generally, reverence, worship, honour, σ. ἀφίσταται A.
