προτέμνω, aor. προὔτᾰμον, A. cut off beforehand, [ὄψον] προταμών Il. 9.489. II. cut off in front, cut short, κορμὸν ἐκ ῥίζης προταμών Od. 23.196; prune vines, PLond. 1.131.375, al. (i A.D.). III. Med., cut forward or in front of one, εἰ ὦλκα διηνεκέα προταμοίμην if in ploughing I cut an unbroken furrow before me, Od. 18.375; but προταμέσθαι ἀρούρας mow them before, A.R. 3.1387.
