ὠτειλή, ἡ, A. wound, esp. a fresh, open wound, Il. (acc. to Diff.pp.104,144, opp. οὐλή) ; δεῖξεν . . αἷμα καταρρέον ἐξ ὠτειλῆς Il. 5.870; αἷμʼ ἔτι θερμὸν ἀνήνοθεν ἐξ ὠ. 11.266, cf. 17.297; δόρυ χάλκεον ἐξ ὠ. εἴρυσε 16.862; ὠτειλὴν . . δῆσαν ἐπισταμένως Od. 19.456;— considered ὠτειλή as restricted in to a wound inflicted hand to hand, not by a missile, χαλκοτύπους ὠ.
