ὀλέκω, impf. without augm. ὄλεκον Il. 11.150 ; Iterat. ὀλέκεσκον (v.l. ὀλέεσκον) 19.135 :—pres. ὀλέσκω , :—A. ruin, destroy, kill, always in last sense, and mostly of men, οἱ δʼ ἀλλήλους ὀλέκουσιν Il. 18.172, cf. 15.249, 22.108, etc. ; but in Od. 22.305, of birds which prey on smaller birds, οἱ δέ τε τὰς ὀλέκουσιν ἐπάλμενοι : in Philos., τίκτει τʼ ὀλέκει τε 17.4 :—Pass., perish, die, esp. a violent death, ὀλέκοντο δὲ λαοί Il. 1.10, cf. 16.17.—Chiefly Ep., used by Trag. only in lyr., once in Act., τί μʼ ὀλέκεις; Ant. 1285 (lyr.); twice in Pass., ὀλέκει Pr. 563(anap.); ὠλεκόμαν Tr. 1012 (lyr.): later, Jb. 10.16 :—Pass., ib.17.1.
