μετάφημι, A. speak among persons, whether in addressing one or more of them, or as their spokesman, (only 3sg. impf. μετέφη), c. dat. pl., τῇσιν (sc. δμῳαῖς) μ. Od. 18.312; πάντεσσι θεοῖσι Il. 19.100: elsewh. always joins it with τοῖς or τοῖσι, whether a single person is addressed, as in Il. 2.411, 4.153, 19.55, or more than one, as in Od. 8.132:—μετέφη c. acc. pers. is f. l. in Il. 2.795.
