ἰότης [ῐ], ητος, ἡ, A. will, desire, Ep.and Lyr. almost always in dat., θεῶν ἰότητι by the will of the gods, Il. 19.9, Od. 7.214,al., cf. 13A; μητρὸς ἐμῆς ἰότητι at her will, Il. 18.396; κακῆς ἰ. γυναικός Od. 11.384; μνηστήρων ἰ. 18.234; ἀλλήλων ἰ. Il. 5.874; ἀναιδήτῳ ἰ. with shameless will, 4.360: acc. only in Il. 15.41 διʼ ἐμὴν ἰ. II. once in Trag., for the sake of, ἰότατι γάμων Pr. 558 (lyr.).— explains it by βουλήσει, αἰτία, ὀργῇ, χάριτι.
