ὑψιπέτης, ου, Dor. ὑψῐ-πέτας, α, ὁ: (πέτομαι):—A. high-flying, soaring, αἰετός Il. 12.201,219, Od. 20.243; ὑψιπετᾶν ἀνέμων P. 3.105; γενοίμαν αἰετὸς ὑψιπέτας Fr. 476 = Av. 1337 (lyr.): Comp. -έστερος ap. 1.49.45:—some unnamed Gramm. (in opposition to Aristarchus) wrote ὑψιπετῆς (contr. from ὑψιπετήεις), v. Sch. A Il. 12.201; the acc. sg. ὑψιπετῆ ὄρνιθα in Ant. 16.2 belongs in sense to this word, in form to the next.
