ἔναυλος (A), ὁ, Subst.: I. (αὐλός) bed of a stream, τάχα κεν . . ἐναύλους πλήσειαν νεκύων Il. 16.71; torrent, mountain-stream, ὅν ῥά τʼ ἔναυλος ἀπο_έρσῃ 21.283, cf. 312. II. (αὐλή) dwelling, shelter: pl., haunts of the country-gods, οὔρεα μακρὰ θεῶν χαρίεντας ἐναύλους Νυμφέων Hes. Th. 129, cf. h.Ven. 74, 124, E. (αὐλός) on or to the aulos, accompanied by it, κιθάρισις Philoch. 66; θροῦς Philostr. Im. 1.2. 2. mostly metaph., λόγος, φθόγγος ἔ., words, voice ringing in oneʼs ears, still heard or remembered, Pl.
