αὐερύω, i. e. ἀϝ-ϝερύω, Ep. for ἀν-ϝερύω, = Att. ἀναρρύω: aor. αὐέρῠσα:—A. draw back or backwards, τὰς [στήλας] οἵ γʼ αὐέρυον pulled them backwards, Il. 12.261; τόξον αὐερύοντα παρʼ ὦμον 8.325: mostly abs., in sacrifice, draw the victimʼs head back, so as to cut its throat, αὐέρυσαν μὲν πρῶτα καὶ ἔσφαξαν 1.459, cf.
