ἀτρύγετος [ῠ], ον, later η, ον IG 3.900:—A. unharvested, barren, freq. in Hom. as epith. of the sea, παρὰ θῖνʼ ἁλὸς ἀτρυγέτοιο Il. 1.316, al.; πόντον ἐπʼ ἀ. Od. 2.370, al.; also διʼ αἰθέρος ἀτρυγέτοιο Il. 17.425, Hes. Cat.Oxy. 1358.2.34, h.Cer. 67,457: Ep. Adj., borrowed by S. Fr. 476, Ar. V. 1521, Av. 1338 (all lyr.). 2. metaph., ἀ. νύξ, of death, AP 7.735 (Damag.). (Expld. as if from ἀ-priv., τρυγάω by Sch.
