ὄρομαι, A. keep watch, used only in compd. with ἐπί, which is always separated from the Verb by tmesis, αἰπόλια πλατέʼ αἰγῶν . . ἐσχατιῇ βόσκοντʼ, ἐπὶ δʼ ἀνέρες ἐσθλοὶ ὄρονται Od. 14.104 ; ἐπὶ δʼ ἀνέρες ἐσθλοὶ ὄροντο, οἶνον οἰνοχοεῦντες 3.471 (cf. ὄρνυμι ad init.); ἐπὶ δʼ ἀνὴρ ἐσθλὸς ὀρώρει Μηριόνης Il. 23.112.—So Sch.Od. 14.104 (cf. ὅρει· φυλάσσει, Hsch.) rightly : ἐπὶ . . ὄρομαι is related to ἐπίουρος (ἔφορος) .
