καυστός or καυτός (as Inscrr.), ή, όν, A. burnt, red-hot, καυτὸν μοχλόν Cyc. 633 (Scal.for καὶ τὸν): καυστόν, τό, burnt-offering for the dead, ; so καυτόν ; whole burnt-offering, ἄγοντι τὸμ βοῦν καὶ τὸγ καυτόν SIG 1025.31 (Cos); ἀρὴν καυτός ib.1027.9 (ibid.). 2. capable of being burnt, opp.ἄκαυστος, Mete. 387a17, al.; cf. καυστικός: Comp. -ότερος Ign. 72.
