Κάνωβος [ᾰ], ὁ (Κάνωπος , cf. 106, Nav. 15, 7.326a), A. Canopus in lower Egypt, Pr. 846, 2.15, 50.27; name of the star Canopus, 1.11.7 (Κάνωπος), Alm. 8.1 (Κάνωβος), etc.:—hence Κανωπίτης [ῑ], of Canopus, αἰγιαλός Call. in PSI 9.1092.58; also epith. of Sarapis, who had a temple there, Ep. 56.1; or Κανωβεύς, Orac. ap. 10.13.8:—Adj. Κανωβικός, ή, όν, στόμα, i. e. the westernmost mouth of the Nile, 2.17, 113; ἡ πύλη ἡ Κανωβική 17.1.10 and 16; Κανωπικά, τά, a kind of cake, Chrysipp.Tyan. ap. 14.647c: Κανωβισμός, luxurious living, 17.1.16.
