ἱππεύς, gen. έως (-έω dub. in Hsch.), Ep. ῆος, ὁ, (ἵππος) A. one who fights from a chariot, Hom. (only in Il.), opp. πεζός, 2.810; either of the driver or of the hero who fights, 12.66, 15.270; also of one who drives in a chariot-race, 23.262. 2. horseman, rider, cavalryman, ἰππήων στρότος Sapph. Supp. 5.1, cf. Hdt. 3.88,9.49, A. Pers. 14 (anap.), Arist.
