ἐπιφύω, A. make to grow, produce on or besides, Thphr. HP 1.9.3. II. Pass., with aor. 2 and pf. Act., ἐπέφῡν, ἐπιπέφυκα:—grow upon, [τῷ σήματι] ἐπιπέφυκε ἐλαίη Hdt. 4.34; esp. as an excrescence, Arist. HA 605a3 ; ταῖς ψυχαῖς ἐ. μελανίαι Plb. 1.81.7; ὁ ἐπιπεφυκώς, with or without ὑμήν, the conjunctiva, Gal. 7.101, Steph. in Hp. 1.88 D.: hence, adhere, cling closely to (cf. ἐμφύω), ἀμφοῖν τοῖν χεροῖν with both hands, Plb. 12.10.6, cf. D.S. 36.15 ; esp. of dogs, ἐ. τοῖς θηρίοις stick close to them, run them hard, Plu. Luc. 1: metaph., τοῖς πλείστοις..οἷον κῆρες ἐπιπεφύκασιν Pl. Lg. 937d, cf.
