ἐπιχείρημα, ατος, τό, A. undertaking, attempt, esp. of a military enterprise, Th. 7.47, X. HG 1.2.6, Isoc. 2.8, etc.; μανικὸν ἐ. ἐπιχειρεῖν Pl. Alc. 1.113c ; πολλὴ μωρία καὶ τοῦ ἐ. Id. Prt. 317a. 2. base of operations against, κατὰ Κύπρου App. Syr. 52. II. in the Logic of Arist., attempted, i.e. dialectical proof, opp. a demonstrative syllogism (φιλοσόφημα), Top. 162a16, etc.: so in Rhet., [Cic.]ad Herenn.2.2.2, D.H.
