ἐλεγκτικός, ή, όν, A. fond of cross-questioning or examining, Sph. 216b, etc.; ὁ ἐ. ἐκεῖνος that cross-questioner, Tht. 200a; fond of reproving, critical, τῶν ἁμαρτανομένων Rh. 1381a31, cf. 4.1 (Sup.); ἐ. βίος Or. 6.191a. Adv. -κῶς Smp. 4.2, etc.: Sup., Demon. 55. 2. refutative, of indirect modes of proof such as the reductio ad absurdum, ἐνθυμήματα Rh. 1396b25. Adv. -κῶς in Metaph. 272.32. 3. -κά, τά, means of detecting, πάθους 1.15.
