διαπνέω, Ep. δια-πνείω, fut. -πνεύσομαι, A. blow through, of air, δ. τὸ σῶμα Arist. Pr. 967a3, cf. Mete. 370b6, etc.:—Pass., αὔραις διαπνεῖσθαι X. Smp. 2.25, cf. Arist. HA 518a16, D.S. 5.82. 2. intr., admit air, ἀπόφραξον ἅπαντα ὡς μὴ διαπνέειν HeroSpir. 2.21. II. breathe between times, get breath, Plb. 27.9.10, Plu. Cim. 12, Ph. 1.90,al.; ἐκ δυσχερείας Plb. 31.4.1. III. intr., disperse in vapour, evaporate, Arist. Resp. 479a17, PA 671a20, cf. Ph. 2.42: so, IV. Pass., διαπίπτειν καὶ διαπνεῖσθαι Pl. Phd. 80c; δ. καὶ σήπεται τὸ σῶμα Arist. de An. 411b9. 2. Medic., dissipate by exhalation, Aret. SA 1.7:—Pass., Gal. 15.377 (also intr. in pass. sense, διέπνευσε τὸ ἄλγος Aret. CA 1.10). 3. Pass., of plants, exhale, διαπνεῖται καὶ ἐξατμίζεται Thphr.
