II. that which is made from guts: 1. string of gut, τὰ ὑποχόνδρια τελαμῶσι καὶ χορδαῖς διασφίγγει Sor. 2.29; in a loom, Arist. GA 787b23: esp. string of a lyre or harp (not in A. or S., once in E., v. infr.), Od. 21.407, h.Merc. 51, etc.; ἐν Αἰολίδεσσι χ. Pi. P. 2.69, cf. E.
