ἀφύη [ῠ], ἡ (gen. pl. ἀφύων, not ἀφυῶν, Hdn.Gr.1.425.13), A. small fry of various fishes (cf. ἀφρός III), 60,89,124, Ach. 640, ap. 7.285b; = μεμβράς, ; nickname of ἑταίρα, 13.586b: prov., ἀφύα πῦρ or εἶδε πῦρ ἀ. ‘no sooner said than done’, 2.32, 1150.40.—Not used in sg. by Att., acc. to s.v. ἀφύων τιμή.
