προπηλακίζω, Att. fut. -ιῶ 6.54: (apparently from πήλαξ = πηλός, though neither πήλαξ nor the simple πηλακίζω certainly existed): —A. bespatter with mud, or trample in the mire: only metaph., treat with contumely, τοὐμὸν στόμα OT 427, cf. Th. 386 (Pass.); freq. in Att. Prose, l. c., 4.16, R. 562d, etc.:—Pass., 15.6, etc.; ἰδὼν προπεπηλακισμένην [τὴν φιλοσοφίαν] ἀναξίως R. 536c; προπηλακισθέντες λόγοις ἢ καὶ ἀτίμοις ἔργοις Lg. 866e; ὑβρίζετο καὶ προὐπηλακίζεθʼ ὑπὸ τοῦ δήμου 9.60.
