πάραλος, ον, (ἅλς) A. by or near the sea, ἄντρα Aj. 413(lyr.) ; χέρσοι Ion 1584 ; ἡ δʼ ὠπτημένη σίζουσα πάραλος, of a cuttle-fish, with a pun on ἡ Πάραλος (infr. III), Ach. 1158. 2. generally, concerned with the sea, naval, ὁ π. στρατός 7.161. II. ἡ πάραλος γῆ the coast-land of Attica (cf. παράλιος II.2), 2.55 : hence οἱ Π. the people of the coast-land, 1.59 ; αὐτόν τε Πάραλον ἐστολισμένον δορί, i.e. τοὺς Π., Supp. 659. III. ἡ Πάραλος ναῦς, 8.74, or ἡ Π. alone, 21.173, or Π. alone, Av. 1204, the Paralos, one of the Athenian sacred galleys, cf. Ath. 61.7, IG 22.1623.225, and v.
