νομεύω, A. put to graze, drive afield, in Act., of the shepherd, καλλίτριχα μῆλα νομεύων Od. 9.336; ἐνόμευε νομὸν κάτα πίονα μῆλα ib.217; ἀγέλην ν. Pl. Plt. 265d:—Pass., metaph., of ἀνθρώπων ἀγέλαι, ib.295e. 2. βουσὶ νομοὺς ν. eat down the pastures with oxen, Lat. depascere, h.Merc. 492. 3. abs., to be a shepherd, tend flocks, Theoc. 20.35.
