ὑφηγέομαι, pf. ὑφήγημαι (v. infr.):—A. go just before, guide, lead, τινι E. El. 664, Pl. Euthd. 278c, etc.: abs., go first, lead the way, ὑφηγοῦ S. El. 1502, cf.Th. 1.78, Pl. Phd. 82d; τοῦτο εὐθὺς ὑφήγηται this is the guiding principle, Arist. Pol. 1260a4; κατὰ τὸν ὑφηγημένον τρόπον according to the normal plan, Id. EN 1108a3, Pol. 1256a2; κατὰ τὴν ὑ. μέθοδον ib. 1252a17 (it is not necessary to regard these usages as pass.). II. c. acc. cogn., ὑ. τὴν ὁδόν show the way, Plu. Pomp. 76, etc.; ὑ. ταῦτα gave these instructions, Lys. 33.3:—Pass., τὰ διʼ ἡμῶν ὑφηγούμενα the precepts laid down by us, Ael.
