ἱππεύω, A. to be a horseman or rider, ride, 1.136, etc.; ἱ. ταῖς κυούσαις ἵπποις HA 576a21; ἱ. ἐπʼ ὄνου Bacch. 2; of a people, ἱππεύει ταῦτα τὰ ἔθνη 7.84, cf. 87:—also in Med., 1.27,79. 2. metaph., of the wind, ζεφύρου πνοαῖς ἱππεύσαντος Ph. 212 (lyr.); σελάνα ἱππεύουσα διʼ ὀρφναίας Supp. 994 (lyr.); also, rush, πρὸς φόνον HF 1001.
