ἐπίκτητος, ον, A. gained besides or in addition, ἐ. γῆ acquired land, which was formerly under water, as the Delta of Egypt, Hdt. 2.5, cf. 10; property added to oneʼs hereditary property, Pl. Lg. 924a, cf. Lycurg. 48; ἐ. γυνή a foreign wife (like ἐπακτός), or newly acquired, Hdt. 3.3; ἐ. φίλοι newly acquired friends, opp. ἀρχαῖοι, X.
