ἀοιδή [ᾰ], Att. contr. ᾠδή (q. v.), ἡ, : (ἀείδω):—A. song, whether: 1. art of song, αὐτὰρ ἀοιδὴν θεσπεσίην ἀφέλοντο Il. 2.599; ὡς ἄρα τοι . . θεὸς ὤπασε θέσπιν ἀ. Od. 8.498. 2. act of singing, song, οἱ δʼ εἰς ἱμερόεσσαν ἀ. τρεψάμενοι 18.304; ὑπʼ ὀρχηθμῷ καὶ ἀοιδῇ Sc. 282. 3. thing sung, song, στονόεσσαν ἀ. οἱ μὲν ἄπʼ ἐθρήνεον Il. 24.721, cf.
