ἀντιτίθημι (pres. part. -τιθοῦντας 1.29), Α. set against or so as to oppose, θαλασσαίαισι δίναις ἀντιθέντα μένος στάλας 57 (dub.). b. set against so as to balance, contrast, or compare, τὠυτὸ ἀντιθήσω ἐκείνῳ 1.207, cf. 8.66; δύο γὰρ ἀντίθες δυοῖν Or. 551: also c. gen., ἀ. τὴν Ἀθηναίων ἐκ πολλοῦ ἐμπειρίαν τῆς σφετέρας ἐξ ὀλίγου μελέτης 2.85, cf. 3.56: with a Prep., ἀ. τι πρός τι 21.175:— Pass., to be contrasted, τινί or πρός τι, Sph. 257d,258e. 2. ἀ. τινί τινα match one against the other in battle, ἴσους ἴσοισι . . ἀντιθείς Ph. 750, cf.
