ἄντα, Ep. Adv. A. over against, face to face, in Hom. mostly in the phrases, ἄ. μάχεσθαι fight man to man, Il. 19.163; ἄ. ἰδεῖν look before one, ib.13.184, cf.E. Alc. 877 (lyr.); θεοῖς ἄ. ἐῴκει he was like the gods to look at, Il. 24.630; εἴδεται ἄ. πελιδνή Nic. Th. 238; ἄ. τιτύσκεσθαι aim straight at them, Od. 22.266, cf. Pi.
